Oxygen Service is a design or production option offered on some measurement devices that enables the measurement of pure oxygen or use in environments containing dangerous concentrations of oxygen.
Oxygen is a strong oxidiser — one of the three ingredients required for fire, alongside a fuel and an ignition source. Minimising risk means selecting highly compatible materials and applying best practice from design to manufacture to operation.
Ball, butterfly, globe and pressure-relief valves all have specific oxygen-service design considerations: slow opening to limit adiabatic compression, metallic shaft bearings, careful trim sizing and burn-resistant materials, plus pressure-relief features on ball valves to vent trapped oxygen.
